VIDEO PREVIEW: DeRitis leads Cape Tech girls into new season

Senior point guard Danielle DeRitis is the top returning player for the Cape May Tech girls basketball team.

CAPE MAY TECH GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mascot: Hawks

Conference: Cape-Atlantic United

2016-17 Record: 6-21

Head coach: Ginny Roma

Assistant coaches: Amber Waddington

Returning players: Seniors – Danielle DeRitis (5-7 G), Brittany Miller (5-5 F); Juniors – Delaney Larking (5-7 F), Danielle Piazza (5-3 G), Liza Pellini (5-8 F); Julia Sittineri (5-3 G); Sophomore – Emily Pasceri (5-2 G)

Top newcomer: Sophomore – Leah Williams (5-8 F).

Strengths: Guard play

Weaknesses: Size, overall experience

Outlook: Cape May Tech has only two players, Danielle DeRitis and Liza Pellini, with significant varsity experience. The other returnees saw limited action at the varsity level last season. Still, behind the leadership of DeRitis, a four-year varsity player, and a bit more overall depth, Tech is shooting to move up a place or two in the CAL United standings and win a few more games than last season.

Season opener: Friday at Oakcrest, 5:30 pm
