A dozen OCHS athletes advance to state track meet

FRANKLINVILLE- A dozen Ocean City High School athletes advanced to the NJSIAA State Group 3 Track & Field Championships today in the South Jersey Group 3 Meet at Delsea Regional High School.

Six OCHS girls and six boys – plus five relay teams – all finished among the top six in their events and therefore qualified to compete again next weekend in the state meet at Central Regional in Bayville.

The Ocean City boys finished sixth in the team standings. Delsea won the South Jersey boys championship on its home track and Bridgeton was third. The OCHS girls were eighth. Winslow Township won the girls team title with Mainland coming in second.

The top Ocean City performer was freshman Alexa Palmieri who finished second in the 3200 meters and fourth in the 1600 meters. Two other girls also advanced to the state meet in two events – Casey McLees was fifth in the 3200 and sixth in the 1600 and Emma Sacco was fifth in both the high jump and triple jump.

In addition, Sophia Grisham was third in the long jump, Alexa Weber finished fourth in the 3200 and Amanda Allen was fifth in the javelin. The girls 4×800 relay team was fourth and the 4×100 team was sixth.

Matt Zelinski qualified for two state events in the boys competition. Zelinski was sixth in both the 400 meters and the 400 meter hurdles. Kevin King finished third in the 110 hurdles, P.J. Short was fourth in the 800 meters, Jesse Schmeizer was fourth in the 1600, Jaden Tocci-Rodgers was fourth in the high jump and Anthony Conte finished sixth in the 3200.

The boys 4×400 relay team and the 4×800 team were both third. The 4×100 team was fourth. All three also advanced.
