OCEAN CITY — There was plenty of drama when the high school wrestling teams from Middle Township and Ocean City met Friday afternoon.

There was even more drama when the match ended.

After the teams finished in a 39-39 tie, the match official had to go out to the eighth tiebreaker to declare the winner. That tiebreaker — the team with the greater number of first points scored in bouts — went Middle’s way and the Panthers were declared a 40-39 winner.

Alick Killian (120), Carson Haas (145), David Giulian (170) and Marcus Hebron (220) each won by fall for Middle. Romeo Rodriguez (126) scored a win by decision and Parker Smart (106) and Kyle Matthews (182) each claimed forfeit victories for the Panthers.

For Ocean City, Lou Williams (132), Tommy Oves (138), Nick Bell (152), Caleb Gartner (160) and Nick Sannino (Hwt.) each recorded pins. Billy Kroegier (195) won by decision and Brian Foulke (113) was awarded a forfeit win for the Raiders.

Both teams are in tournament action following the Christmas holiday. Ocean City will compete in the Art Marinelli Tournament at Egg Harbor Township on Thursday while Middle Township will go to the Palmyra Holiday Tournament next Saturday.
