VIDEO: Efficient Crusaders roll to win at showcase event

OCEAN CITY — A tremendous first-half defensive effort and crisp shooting led the Wildwood Catholic High School girls basketball team to a convincing victory Saturday afternoon at the Ocean City PBA Tip-Off Weekend showcase event.

The Crusaders allowed Notre Dame only four field goals in 25 attempts in the first half while shooting an impressive 19 for 40 for the game on their own en route to a 54-30 win.

Gabby Turco and Marianna Papazoglou each shot 7 for 11 from the floor and combined for 41 of Wildwood Catholic’s points. Turco posted 22 points, seven rebounds and four assists and Papazoglou sank 19 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Both players had three steals apiece.

Wildwood Catholic (2-0) raced to a 27-11 halftime lead and led 40-15 after three quarters.

The Crusaders had 12 assists on their 19 field goals.
