A freshman and two seniors are early CAL football stat leaders

By TOM WILLIAMS

A freshman and two seniors are the early leaders in football stats among Cape-Atlantic League schools.

Rookie Pat Smith of St. Augustine leads CAL teams in rushing yards with 329. He has had three games to build his total but he also has the highest average gain per carry – 12.2 yards. Qwahsin Townsel of St. Joseph is a close second in total yards and Vineland’s Isaih Pacheco averages 11.8 per carry to rank second in that category.

Senior Tristan Harris (above) leads the passers with an impressive 219.5 pass efficiency rating, based on the NCAA system. Sophomore Lou Barrios of Cedar Creek has the most passing yards (357) and junior Mitchell Donovan of St. Joe has the highest completion percentage (.833).

Among receivers, senior Josh Coursey of Absegami has the most yards (192), senior Shamere Collins of St. Augustine has the most catches (12) and senior Wynah Kent of Vineland has the best average per catch. Kent has caught one pass for 57 yards – a whopping 57.0 average.

Ocean City’s senior quarterback Harry Pfeifle leads the Cape May County schools in both rushing yards and passing efficiency.

The stat totals are primarily based on statistics supplied by the schools, though four schools (Atlantic City, Bridgeton, Buena and Holy Spirit) have not made their statistics available yet.
