by TOM WILLIAMS

There are some new leaders in football scoring among Cape-Atlantic League teams.

Holy Spirit sophomore Elijah Gray took over the scoring lead with 54 points after his three-touchdown effort against Lower Cape May. Through three weekends, he leads St. Joseph senior Qwahsin Townsel by four points.

Senior Elijah Nichols of Millville, a transfer from Camden Catholic, and senior Josh Zamot of Holy Spirit, a transfer from St. Augustine, share the lead in TD passes. And senior Flash Morgan of Atlantic City has caught the most touchdowns.

Senior Nate Fondacaro of St. Augustine is tops in kicking points (19) and extra points (13) and shares the lead in field goals with seniors A.J. Long of Oakcrest and Clay Olley of Cedar Creek.

Senior Zach Sterr of Absegami (above) kicked a field on Friday against St. Joseph, giving him 101 career kicking points. He is the 18th player in CAL history to reach triple figures. It was Sterr’s 12th career field goal, tied for sixth all-time in the CAL

Junior Cameron Hamer of Middle Township leads all CAL players with four two-point conversions.

Vineland is the highest scoring team (43.3 per game) with St. Joseph (41.3) and Holy Spirit (40.7) right behind. Pleasantville (6.5) is at the top in fewest points allowed with Vineland (6.7) close behind.
