Middle Township High School athletic director Scott Lodgek resigned his position earlier this week and was later arrested on theft charges, Middle Township police announced.
According to a press release, the Middle Township Police Department’s Major Crimes Unit conducted an investigation that revealed that Lodgek removed money from the school’s sports account on two separate occasions that totaled $1,825.
Middle police said Lodgek admitted taking cash from the account during the investigation. He was charged with second-degree official misconduct and third-degree theft and was released on a summons pending court proceedings.
Lodgek, 48, had been the athletic director at Middle since 2008. He was previously the athletic director at Absegami High School.
According to a statement by Middle Township school superintendent Dave Salvo, the school will seek to fill the athletic director position on an interim basis while a search to find a permanent candidate for the position is conducted.
