RAIDER ROUNDUP: Boys Cross Country win streak reaches 83

By TOM WILLIAMS

The streak continued Tuesday for the Ocean City High School boys cross country team.

Matt Purdue’s Raiders, led by seniors Korey Greene and Jesse Schmeizer, notched three more wins at the New Jersey Motorsports Park in Millville. The three season opening wins stretched the Raiders’ win streak to 83 straight meets over 10 seasons.

At the same time, the OCHS girls cross country team won three decisions, including a win over Mainland. Last year the Mustangs handed Ocean City its only loss in girls cross country in seven seasons.

Greene, above, and Schmeizer finished one-two in the quad meet with Millville, Atlantic City and Mainland. The Raiders shot out both the Vikings and Thunderbolts (15-50) and topped Mainland, 20-27. Sophomore Anthony Conte finished seventh overall for OCHS with senior P.J. Short eighth, junior Gavyn Fox ninth and sophomore Luke Kramer 10th.

Senior Alexa Weber finished first overall for the Ocean City girls in their 15-50 win over Atlantic City, 19-43 over Millville and 17-44 over Mainland. Freshman Alexa Palmieri was third overall, senior Mickey Baker fourth, freshman Nicki Bradey sixth and sophomore Casey McClees seventh.

Mainland competed without Alyssa Aldridge, the two-time NJSIAA Meet of Champions winner, but even if you plug her in at first place, Ocean City would still have won, 22-33.

On Saturday, the girls cross country team will compete in the South Jersey Shootout at Gloucester County College.
