Catching up with former Cape May County high school athletes now competing at the college level:

Ryan Herlihy (junior-Haverford College cross country-MTHS) placed 103rd out of 359 finishers in the Gold 8K race at the Paul Short College Meet at Lehigh University. Herlihy posted a time of 24:51, helping Haverford place 17th out of 40 teams overall and as the first Division III school at the meet. Haverford was recently ranked fourth in the country in Division III by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association national poll. …

EMILY JOHNSON

Emily Johnson (senior-Seton Hall cross country-WCHS) placed second overall in 23:25.78 to help the Pirates win the 6K Blue & Gold Invitational at the University of Delaware on Saturday. Eight teams and 82 runners competed in the event. Seton Hall, which has placed first in four consecutive invitational meets, next competes Oct. 13 at the Metropolitan Championships at Van Cortland Park in New York City. …

JARED IRWIN

Jared Irwin (junior-Cabrini soccer-WHS) has scored a team-high three goals so far this season while starting 11 of a possible 12 games for the Cavaliers (4-7-1). Meanwhile, Sal Zampirri (junior-Cabrini soccer-WCHS) has started all 12 games, Ray Wilson (freshman-Cabrini soccer-MTHS) has seen action in all 12 games, Trent Canter (freshman-Cabrini soccer-MTHS) has played in 11 games with two starts and Brendan Forrest (freshman-Cabrini soccer-MTHS) has played in one game. At the goalkeeper position, Anthony Zampirri (freshman-Cabrini soccer-WCHS) has played in four games with three starts and has a record of 1-1 with one shutout. Cabrini beat Centenary, 5-0, on Saturday for its fourth straight victory after starting the season with a draw and seven losses through its first eight games. …

Christian Rafter (freshman-Rosemont College soccer-MTHS) is tied for the team lead in goals with two and points with five for the Ravens (1-9-1). Rafter has seen action in all 11 games, with 10 starts. …

Christian Baumgardner (redshirt freshman-Virginia football-OCHS), a defensive end, has seen action in two of the Cavaliers’ five games so far this season. He was credited with a pass breakup in a 42-23 win at Boise State. Virginia (4-1 overall, 1-0 ACC) beat Duke on Saturday and plays at North Carolina this weekend. …

Madie Gibson (redshirt sophomore-Monmouth soccer-LCMR) scored both goals as the Hawks beat Manhattan, 2-1, on Saturday for their 13th straight home victory, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I women’s soccer. Gibson leads the team in scoring through 13 games, having posted 12 points on three goals and six assists. Monmouth is 9-2-2 overall, 6-0-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference. …

GABRIELLA MCKEOWN

Gabriella McKeown (senior-Temple soccer-LCMR) scored her team-best fourth goal of the season in the 83rd minute Sunday to lift the Owls’ into a 2-2 draw at Tulsa. McKeown, a striker, is one of two Temple players to have started all 13 games. She also leads the team in shots attempted with 33 and is third on the team in minutes played with 919. The Owls are 5-6-2 overall, 1-2-1 in the American Athletic Conference. …

KELLY HANNA

Kelly Hanna (junior-Monmouth field hockey-OCHS) is second on the team in goals with seven and third in points with 16 while starting all 11 games for the Hawks (8-3 overall, 1-1 MAAC). She was one of the goal scorers in the team’s last victory, a 4-0 result over Sacred Heart on Sept. 29. …

Lauren McNally (redshirt sophomore-Penn State field hockey-OCHS) has played in eight games as a defender, with one start, for the Nittany Lions so far this season. Penn State (12-2 overall, 4-1 Big 10) entered Saturday’s 2-1 win over California ranked No. 5 in the nation. …

RIALEE ALLEN

Rialee Allen (freshman-LaSalle field hockey-OCHS), a forward, has posted two goals and an assist to place  second on the team with five points while seeing action in all 11 games so far, with eight starts. April Stein (senior-LaSalle field hockey-OCHS) has played in eight games, with seven starts, as a midfielder and has recorded one assist. …

Veronica Garcia (sophomore-Arcadia soccer-OCHS) is second in the team in goals with six and points with 13. Arcadia topped Lycoming, 3-0, on Saturday to improve to 9-4 overall, 3-0 in the MAC Commonwealth Division. …

Joe Trombetta (freshman-Delaware Valley College football-MTHS), a defensive lineman, has seen action in two games for the Aggies (6-0 overall, 5-0 MAC), who entered last weekend ranked seventh in the nation in the NCAA Division III football poll. …

Amanda Durbin (sophomore-Olivet Nazarene soccer-LCMR) has seen action in 10 games and has recorded an assist for the Tigers, who are 6-5-1 overall, 4-1-0 in the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference. …

Emma Bergman (sophomore-Rutgers cross country-OCHS) placed 197th overall in a personal-best time of 22:12 at the Paul Short Women’s Gold 6K race at Lehigh University recently. Rutgers placed 27th out of 42 teams at the meet, which featured 369 individual finishers. …

Devon Grisbaum (junior-Vanderbilt cross country-OCHS) finished in 88th place with a time of 17:49.11 at the recent Louisville Classic 5K race, helping the Commodores to a 12th-place finish out of 37 teams. …

Ashley Edgell (junior-Misericordia soccer-OCHS) has two goals in 11 games for the Cougars, who are 9-2-2 overall, 2-0 in the MAC Freedom Division. …

Joe Fala (sophomore-Ramapo soccer-MTHS) has scored two goals and posted three assists for seven points while starting 12 of a possible 13 games for the Roadrunners, who beat The College of New Jersey, 2-0, on Saturday to improve to 6-7 overall, 2-3 in the New Jersey Athletic Conference. …

Leah Davies (senior-Stockton field hockey-OCHS) recorded a goal and an assist in Stockton’s 5-0 win over Neumann on Saturday. David Hicks (junior-William & Mary golf-MTHS) shot 72-73-77—222 (+6) to lead all Tribe players and place 24th overall out of 87 finishers at the Firestone Invitational in Akron, Ohio, earlier this month. William & Mary finished 12th out of 16 teams in team scoring at the event. …

Marissa McGaffney (freshman-Drew soccer-LCMR) has seen action in all 12 games at midfielder for the Rangers. She has recorded four shots on goal. Drew beat Juniata, 2-0, on Saturday to improve to 6-6 overall, 1-2 in the Landmark Conference.
