ERMA – The Wildwood and Lower Cape May Regional high school boys soccer teams played a spirited game Wednesday evening, one that ended in thrilling fashion for the Caper Tigers when Dan Cristelo’s goal gave them a 3-2 victory in extra time.

But after battling one another for nearly 100 minutes, the players on both sides came away winners by playing for a worthy cause.

Both teams used the game to help raise awareness for and money to fight breast cancer.

All players and coaches wore long-sleeve T-shirts with a ‘Kickin’ For A Cure’ logo in the center for the game. Wildwood’s were black trimmed in pink while Lower’s were white trimmed in pink.

Lower Cape May coach Dennis Elia said the teams also combined to order 300 short-sleeve pink T-shirts that the players have been selling in their respective schools for $10 each to help raise some money in the fight against the disease.

“We thought this was really good being about community and giving back,” Elia said. “Our kids had the idea to sell the shirts, so I contacted (Wildwood coach) Steve (DeHorsey) about doing something and he was all in. The kids are out there selling the shirts so we thought it’d be great to get the long-sleeve shirts for them to wear for this game.”

The captains from each team posed for a photograph just prior to the start of the contest.
