By TOM WILLIAMS

Senior Qwahsin Townsel and junior Jade Byers of St. Joseph are two highest scorers among Cape-Atlantic League teams.

Millville’s throwing and receiving combinations are dominating the CAL passing stats.

And two Absegami athletes tied CAL records in the Braves’ win over Triton on Friday.

Townsel (above) has scored 17 rushing touchdowns and six two-point conversions for 114 points. The St. Joe record is 176 points in 2005 by Jack Corcoran.

Byers has 10 rushing TDs, one kickoff return for a score, three punt return TDs and a pair of two-pointers for 88 points, good for second place.

A Millville foursome is putting up impressive passing numbers. Senior quarterback Elijah Nichols, a transfer from Camden Catholic, has thrown 11 TD passes, best among CAL QBs. He has one more TDP than Holy Spirit’s Josh Zamot. And Nichols’ teammate, Triston Harris, who was Millville’s quarterback last year, is third in CAL stats with six TD passes.

Thunderbolt receivers Carlton Lawrence and Marcial Ramos are tied for first in TD catches with seven each, one more than Atlantic City’s Flash Morgan.

In Runnemede on Friday, Absegami quarterback Andrew Marcucci tied a CAL record for TD passes in one game when he threew five to spark a 36-31 win. It was first done by Mainland’s Matt Flynn in 2005 then equaled by Middle Township’s Nolan Quinn (2007), Ocean City’s Chris Curran (2009) and St. Augustine’s Jose Tabora (2015).

Wide receiver Josh Coursey caught four of Marcucci’s TD passes to also tie a record. The record was set by Justin Bishop of Mainland in 2015.

Also in the Absegami-Triton game, ‘Gami kicker Zach Sterr kicked his 14th career field goal, moving into a tie with Holy Spirit grad Cade Antonucci for fourth in CAL history. Sterr has 110 career kicking points.
