Townsel regains CAL scoring lead – Zamot, Fondacaro lead in passing, kicking

By TOM WILLIAMS

Qwahsin Townsel of St. Joseph regained the scoring lead among Cape-Atlantic League football players during the Wildcats’ romp over Pennsville Saturday afternoon.

The SJHS senior has scored 70 points, eight points more than Holy Spirit sophomore Elijah Gray, who led last week. Both junior Shawn Rice of Buena and senior Nihym Anderson of Vineland jumped into the top five by scoring five touchdowns each on Friday night.

Senior Josh Zamot of Holy Spirit took over the lead in TD passes with 10, two ahead of Millville’s Elijah Nichols. There is a four-way tie for the leadership in touchdown receptions.

St. Augustine’s Nate Fondacaro continues to lead in kicking points, despite having a bye week. A.J. Long of Oakcrest kicked his CAL-leading third field goal and Absegami’s Zach Sterr kicked a 42-yard field goal, the longest by a CAL kicker this year.

St. Joe sophomore Jada Byers returned two punts for TDs on Saturday and leads CAL players with three return touchdowns, including one with a kickoff.
