CAL schools face new schedules in proposed WJFL alignment

By TOM WILLIAMS

During the 2016 and 2017 football seasons the Cape-Atlantic League teams were kept together in their own three divisions of the West Jersey Football League after the CAL merged. That is not the case in the proposed WJFL alignments sent out to the schools last week.

For example, St. Augustine Prep is grouped with Cherokee, Lenape, Rancocas Valley, Shawnee and Williamstown.

Cedar Creek is teamed with Camden, Camden Catholic, Delsea, Willingboro and Woodrow Wilson.

Holy Spirit will compete within its division with Eastern, Hammonton, Kingsway and Washington Township.

Atlantic City, Millville and Vineland remain in the same division but are joined by St. Joseph and Timber Creek.

Buena, Lower Cape May, Middle Township and Pleasantville are still grouped together and are joined by Gloucester and Gloucester Catholic.

The only division that consists entirely of CAL teams is Absegami, Bridgeton, Egg Harbor Township, Mainland, Oakcrest and Ocean City.

Wildwood will be grouped with Clayton, Haddon Township, Maple Shade, Riverside and Robbinsville.

The divisions are re-aligned every two years based on enrollment, geography and the recent success of the football programs. These alignments are sent to the schools for their feedback. A final alignment will be confirmed at a later date, plus the crossover games against teams from other divisions.

Rivalry games like Atlantic City-Holy Spirit and Ocean City-Pleasantville will be guaranteed as crossover games.
