OCEAN CITY – Nate Hays was part of two record-breaking performances to highlight the Ocean City High School boys and girls swimming teams’ sweep of Millville Tuesday afternoon at the Aquatics and Fitness Center.

The Raider boys won all but one event in a 132-35 victory over the Thunderbolts. The Raider girls took first place in every event in a 140-30 win.

Hays set a new school record during a first-place finish in the 100-meter backstroke, posting a time of 1 minute, 3.08 seconds. The previous record of 1:03.58 was set in 2015 by Mike Fiscus.

Hays was also part of the first-place 400-meter freestyle relay team that posted a school record time of 3:51.72. Steve Gooden, Brian Walsh and Matt DiMarino joined Hays in the event. The previous record of 3:52.82 was set in 2007 by George Santer, Pat Lavin, Shawn Vogel and Gene Taylor.

Hays also won the 100 butterfly and was part of the first-place 200 medley relay team. DiMarino was also a four-event winner. He was also part of the 200 medley relay team and claimed first in the 50 and 100 freestyle races.

Gooden won the 200 and 500 freestyle races and Ethan McCarron won the 100 breaststroke for Ocean City (1-1).

In the girls meet, Alex Antonov won the 50 freestyle and 100 breaststroke and was also part of the winning 200 medley relay team to lead Ocean City to the easy win.

Ocean City (2-0) had seven other swimmers win individual events in the girls meet. They included Emily Myers (200 freestyle), Claudia Scherbin (200 individual medley), Maggie Wallace (100 butterfly), Brooke Powell (100 freestyle), Andrea Teofanova (500 freestyle) and Ryann Styer (100 backstroke).

The Ocean City boys team is next in action Friday at St. Augustine Prep. Both teams return to the Aquatics and Fitness Center Dec. 20 against Egg Harbor Township.
