COLLEGEVILLE, PA- Ocean City High School’s indoor track team continued to establish new school records, this time at the Bears High School Invitational in the Floy Lewis Bakes Center at Ursinus College.

Cian O’Donoghue, Louis Conte, Matt Zelinski and Josh Rolls (from left) set a new OCHS indoor record in the 4×200 meter relay.

In the 4×200 meter relay, senior Cian O’Donoghue, sophomore Louis Conte, senior Matt Zelinski and senior Josh Rolls ran the event in 1 minute, 36.5 seconds to win the race in their section by one-half second over second place Smyrna (DE) High School. The old school record was 1:37.6 set by Ryan Givens, Kevin McDermott, Zach Chopek and Zach Zellers in 2015.

Josh Rolls, Louis, Conte, Sean Zellers and Matt Zelinski (from left) set a school indoor record in the 4×400 meter relay.

A little later in the meet, Rolls, Conte, Zelinski and senior Sean Zellers covered the 4×400 meter relay in 3:35.84 to finish second in their section by 1.5 seconds to Perkiomen (PA) Valley High School. But the OCHS quartet broke the school record of 3:36.2 set by Evan Ochlan, Eli Guseman, Kevin Scott and Geoff Ely in 2013.

In addition, the boys 4×800 relay (senior P.J. Short, sophomore Luke Kramer, senior Korey Greene and senior Jesse Schmeizer) finished third. And the girls 4×800 (freshman Alexa Palmieri, sophomore Casey McLees, junior Brooke Farr and senior Alexa Weber) finished sixth.

Weber also finished sixth in the mile run, just a stride in front of Palmieri.

Today’s strong performances get Matt Purdue’s Raiders ready for the NJSIAA South Jersey Group 3 Relay Championships next Sunday at the Bennett Center in Toms River.

Ocean City’s distance medley relay teams have both been successful this season and senior Liam Bergman previously set a school record by going 41 feet, 10.25 inches in the triple jump and making a strong showing in the high jump.
