Two county teams win titles at Lower Township youth hoops tournament

The Lower Township grades 5-6 boys basketball team won its division at the Greater Cape May Elks/Tom Beheler youth basketball tournament recently. Two Cape May County teams were among the winners at the Greater Cape May Elks/Tom Beheler youth basketball tournament held Dec. 27-29 at the Richard M. Teitelman School and Lower Cape May Regional High School. The event was hosted by the Lower Township Department of Parks and Recreation.

Ocean City won the grades 3-4 boys division by defeating Lower Township, 21-19, in overtime in the championship game. Lower Township claimed the boys grades 5-6 championship by beating Middle Township, 42-23, in the title game.

Other winners at the tournament included Linwood (grades 5-6 girls), Northfield (grades 7-8 girls) and Hamilton (grades 7-8 boys).

Forty-two teams from Atlantic and Cape May counties participated in the tournament. Part of the proceeds from the event are donated to the ALS Foundation.
