Chain, Sorensen set school records at MAAC swimming championships

Two swimmers from Cape May County each made their mark at the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference swimming championships last week.

Ocean City High School graduate Aly Chain set two new school records on the women’s side while Wildwood Catholic graduate Eric Sorensen was part of school record-setting relay teama on the men’s side.

Chain, a sophomore at Iona University, won the 100 butterfly for the second straight year. She set a MAAC championships record time of 55.52 in the process.

Chain also broke her own school mark in the 50 freestyle, placing second in 23.60. She was also 10th in the 100 freestyle and was part of the third-place 400 medley relay team, the fourth-place 200 medley relay team and the seventh-place 200 free relay team.

Iona placed fifth in women’s team scoring.

Sorensen, also a sophomore, was part of the Monmouth University school record 200 freestyle relay team. The group finished in ninth place with a time of 1:27.04.

Monmouth finished seventh in men’s team scoring.
