Crest Memorial, Bishop McHugh win Optimist tournament titles

NORTH WILDWOOD — The boys team from Crest Memorial and the girls team from Bishop McHugh captured championships at the George A. D’Amico Memorial Grammar School Basketball Tournament last weekend.

The four-day tournament for seventh- and eighth-grade boys and girls basketball teams was hosted by the Optimist Club of the Wildwoods and was held at the North Wildwood Community Center.

The following are recaps from the championship games:

Girls – Bishop McHugh 42, Margaret Mace 40: Madison Palek collected 15 points, Adrianna Gray-Rivera added 11 points and Xiomara Walker chipped in eight points for McHugh. Imene Fathi led all scorers with 23 points, Maya Benichou scored nine points and Torrence Gallo contributed six points in the loss.

Boys – Crest Memorial 46, Richard M. Teitelman 36: Kevin Castro poured in 21 points, Michael McGee sank 13 points and Lucas Gehring added eight points for the winners. Jacob Bey netted 10 points and Joe Whitesell and Archie Lawler each posted nine points in the loss.

Bishop McHugh captured the girls championship at the Optimist tournament in North Wildwood.
