CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — James Longstreet couldn’t have had a better start to Wednesday’s high school baseball game.

The sophomore from Cape May Tech struck out the side on nine pitches in the top of the first inning, then blasted a two-run double in the bottom of the frame to give his team all the scoring it would need in a 4-1 victory over Lower Cape May.

Lower (1-9) closed its deficit to 2-1 in the third inning on David MacDonald’s RBI double, but Zach Powers had an RBI single and Jake Morrisey knocked in a run in the bottom of the frame to extend the Hawks’ lead.

Longstreet didn’t need any more support. He allowed just two hits and three walks and struck out eight in a complete-game performance.

The win was Tech’s fourth in its last five games. The Hawks improved to 7-7.
