No. 1 Moorestown beats OCHS in girls lacrosse

By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City High School’s undefeated girls lacrosse team took on the No. 1 ranked team in South Jersey today at Carey Stadium and found out why Moorestown is at the top of the heap.

The Raiders suffered their first defeat, 18-3, in a non-league game against a Group 3 team they would probably have to beat to win a South Jersey championship.

In other action on Monday, the boys lacrosse team (8-2) defeated Absegami in Galloway Township, 13-3, with Christian Kuhn scoring four times and Joe Lloyd three. And the boys tennis team (7-2) shut out Buena, 5-0, with singles players Tanner Tomassi, Manav Randhem and Ryan Roller all winning in straight sets.

Junior Emily DiMarino scored the first goal at Carey Stadium for girls lacrosse on Monday but Moorestown pretty much took over from that point. The Quakers led, 11-3, at halftime and shut out Ocean City, 7-0, in the second half when they used each possession to keep the clock running.

DiMarino scored twice in the game (30 this season, 160 for her career) and sophomore Ali Hendricks also hit the nets for OCHS, her 14th goal of the season. Moorestown (10-2) got five goals from junior Kayla Frank (25 this season) and four from sophomore Avery Jaffee. Junior Ashley Nutt had three assists.

Video of DiMarino’s two goals, a save by sophomore Abbey Fenton and a post-game interview with Coach Alyssa Morrison are below.

Ocean City (8-1) will travel to Medford on Wednesday to play another non-league opponent in Shawnee (5-5). Moorestown defeated Shawnee, 16-5, last week. The Raiders will host Mainland (7-1) on Friday at Carey Stadium (6:30) in a battle for first place in the Cape-Atlantic League.
