VIDEO: Matt Fumo throws out first pitch at OCHS home opener – Dan Nunan pitches shutout

By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City High School’s baseball team opened its Cape-Atlantic League season today against Holy Spirit at the 5th & Bay field. The Raiders had just returned from Florida where they won two of three games.

The Raiders won the game today, 1-0, behind the masterful pitching of Dan Nunan. The 6-5 lefthander, committed to the University of Delaware, pitched a complete-game, two-hit shutout, striking out 11 and walking two. Nunan (2-0), who led the CAL in strikeouts per seven innings last year, has fanned 23 in 12 innings this year. Ocean City scored the only run it would need in the sixth inning when Brandon Pokrass, Shane Ferry and Peyton Bristol all singled to load the bases and Parker Bristol lifted a sacrifice fly that scored pinch runner Sean Zellers.

But today’s big story was really the return of Matt Fumo, the 2017 graduate and all star baseball player who threw out the ceremonial first pitch less than nine months after doctors feared he might never walk again following a swimming accident.

Matt’s sister, Julia, sang the National Anthem prior to the start of the game. She is a junior at Ocean City High School.
