CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Middle Township High School softball team held off a seventh-inning rally to beat Ocean City, 5-3, Tuesday afternoon.

Ocean City trailed by three runs going into the top of the seventh but two walks and hit loaded the bases with one out. Alex Vitola’s RBI single scored Ashley Vitiello but Middle pitcher Sam Grassi induced a force out and a ground out to end the game.

Middle took the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning by scoring three times to break a 2-2 tie. Kayla Cubernot scored the go-ahead run on an Ocean City error and Holly Carter hit a two-run single to score Grassi and Sayde Nichols.

Nichols and Cubernot each had two hits and Grassi struck out eight on the mound.

Lindsay Konick went 3 for 4 with two runs scored for Ocean City.
