OCHS girls lacrosse advances in Group 3

By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City’s girls lacrosse team ducked the raindrops today and won its opener in the NJSIAA Group 3 Tournament.

Alyssa Morrison’s Raiders used four goals by Emily DiMarino to easily defeat Central Regional, 17-2, in a steady rain. The victory advanced OCHS into the second round of the tournament on Tuesday against either Seneca or Cherry Hill West at Carey Stadium. Those two teams play tomorrow (Friday).

Also today, Tim Kelley’s boys tennis team was shut out by Moorestown, 5-0, to end their season. Moorestown is ranked No. 1 in South Jersey and No. 8 in the state. Despite the final loss, it was a very successful season for OCHS (15-5) on the tennis courts.

DiMarino’s four goals gave her 58 for the season. She also had an assist, her 27th. Danielle Donoghue scored three goals, lifting her season total to 46, and had an assist, her team-leading 46th. Ashley Devlin scored three, giving her 30 on the season. Ali Henricks had two goals and three assists, Morgan Pizagno scored two goals and had an assist, Anna Devlin scored twice and Shannon O’Reilly scored her 42nd goal of the season and added two assists.

The baseball game at Oakcrest was postponed until Tuesday by wet grounds. The Raiders can clinch the CAL-National by winning that game. The baseball game scheduled for tomorrow at 5th & Bay against Highland was cancelled.

The Ocean City crew will be in Philadelphia tomorrow and Saturday for the Stotesberry Cup.
