STONE HARBOR — It’s a promising start for the Wildwood Catholic High School girls soccer team.

Armed with better numbers, a bit more experience and increased overall talent, the Crusaders are unbeaten through their first two games after Thursday’s 6-0 victory over Cape May Tech. That came on the heels of a 1-1 draw with Buena on Tuesday.

Marianna Papazoglou, Mia Caso, Bella Feraco, Bella Orlowicz, Ivy Bolle and Kimmy Casiello each scored goals in the win over Cape May Tech.

“It’s been a really good start, Wildwood Catholic coach Kara Saunders said. “It would’ve been nice to walk away with a win against Buena but it was a hard-fought game. Buena was a good team for us to get started against because they had a good year last year and they’re an aggressive team. To go up against a team like that right away kind of let our younger girls know what high school soccer is all about.”

At times last season, Wildwood Catholic played games without substitutes due to low numbers. Now, the team has a full arsenal of substitute players, thanks to an influx of freshmen and sophomores into the program.

“I’ve been really happy with the way the freshmen and sophomores are working together with everybody,” Saunders said. “They haven’t played a lot of together but I feel we have a decent midfield in there. The girls move well together and they listen and communicate well on the field.”

Wildwood Catholic will get tested next week. The team has games with St. Joseph and Holy Spirit.

“We’re super excited for the season,” Saunders said.
