OCEAN CITY — A dominant Ocean City High School girls soccer team finally sliced open an organized, stingy Middle Township defense late in the first half and eventually pulled away for a 3-0 victory Monday to remain unbeaten.

The game was originally scheduled to be played in the afternoon at the Tennessee Avenue Field but was moved to a 6:30 p.m. start on Carey Stadium’s artificial turf field after the recent rains made the grass field facility unplayable.

Delaney Lappin capitalized on a moment of space with the ball at her feet just outside the penalty area to blast a shot inside the right post to finally score for the Raiders with a little less than 10 minutes to play in the first half. Ocean City had held about 80 percent of the possession to that point but couldn’t slip one past Middle goalkeeper Brynn Bock until Lappin’s opener.

Rutgers commit Faith Slimmer made the lead insurmountable in the second half by scoring twice within 30 seconds. The first came on a penalty kick.

Abbey Fenton earned the shutout in goal, her second of the season.

Ocean City, which drew with Shawnee in its previous game on Saturday, moved to 3-0-1 with the result. Middle Township fell to 0-2.
