Boys soccer playoffs: Ocean City lone county team to win

Ocean City was the only Cape May County high school boys soccer team to win in the first round of the state playoffs on Monday.

The Raiders, the third seed in South Jersey Group III, got two goals and an assist from Hunter Paone in a 7-1 win over Timber Creek. Matt Brook, Fisher Hudak, John Lindsay, Jadin Eafrati and Luke Varallo also scored goals. The Raiders (15-5) will host Cherry Hill West in the second round on Thursday.

Eddie Proud scored the opener early in the second half for Middle Township, but Sterling rallied for a 2-1 victory in extra time in a South Jersey Group II game. The Panthers finished the season at 12-8-1. They’ll bring back a good portion of their starting lineup next season.

Wildwood, playing its first-ever home state playoff game, lost a 2-1 decision to Woodbury in South Jersey Group I. Will Long scored for the Warriors. Wildwood finished the season at 13-6, setting a program record for wins in a season.

Also in Group I, Cape May Tech lost 8-0 at Palmyra to finish the season at 9-8.

Wildwood Catholic lost, 10-1, at Wardlaw-Hartridge in a South Jersey Non-Public B game. Wildwood Catholic (3-10-1) is scheduled to finish its season Wednesday against Lower Cape May.
