Raider Nation celebrates – OCHS field hockey clinches conference – both soccer teams advance

By TOM WILLIAMS

It was a Super Monday for Ocean City High School sports teams.

The field hockey team (14-2-1) officially clinched the Cape-Atlantic League’s American Conference championship by defeating Egg Harbor Township, 6-0, at Carey Stadium.

And both OCHS soccer teams advanced to the finals of the new CAL Soccer Tournaments – the boys (10-4) defeated Pleasantville, 5-0, and the girls (12-4-1) topped Egg Harbor Township, 2-0, in the semi-finals.

Matt Brook and Fisher Hudak scored twice for Aaron Bogushefsky’s boys soccer team. Luke Varallo added the fifth goal and Brian Calderon made four saves. Brook, Hudak, Varallo, Anthony Inserra and Matt Leap all had assists. The Raiders will play St. Augustine Prep on Wednesday night (7:30) at EHT for the championship. Ocean City lost to The Prep, 2-0, last month in Chester, PA.

Summer Reimet and Tori Rolls scored the goals for Ocean City against Egg Harbor Township with Delaney Lappin and Carly Reighard getting assists. Kelly Halliday’s team will play either Buena or Mainland Wednesday at 5:45 p.m. at EHT for the championship. The Raiders have lost twice this year to Mainland.

Jaclyn Charbonneau scored the three-goal hat trick today in the field hockey win. Molly Reardon added two goals and Sophia Gresham scored once. Reese Bloomstead had two assists and Maddie Kahn made four saves. OCHS is 12-0 in the conference and has outscored conference opponents, 80-1, this season. It was Ocean City’s 21st CAL field hockey championship in the last 22 years.
