WILDWOOD — The Wildwood High School boys basketball team picked up its first victory Wednesday at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic.

The Warriors, one game after playing well in a loss against a good Holy Spirit team, held Absegami to four first-half field goals, opened a lead as large as 27 points in the second half and breezed to a 52-33 victory to advance to the title game of the tournament’s Bernie McCracken Memorial Boys Bracket.

“I thought we played well against Holy Spirit but we still didn’t get the win,” Wildwood coach Scott McCracken said. “We executed well for a while but then we had a lapse in one quarter and that cost us. Tonight I thought we played four quarters of good basketball. We executed pretty well and we got what we wanted.”

Wildwood will face Father Judge of the Philadelphia Catholic for the bracket title Thursday at 8:30 p.m. Judge beat Montgomery Blair (Md.), 37-32, in its first-round game Wednesday.

“We saw a little bit of Judge before our game,” McCracken said. “I think we’re pretty evenly matched. It should be a good game.”

Tyler Tomlin made 4-of-9 three-point attempts and scored a game-best 20 points to go with a game-best eight rebounds for Wildwood (1-3). Will Long added 16 points, shooting a proficient 5 for 8 from the floor.
