Middle Township High School recently honored its graduating student-athletes at its annual athletic awards ceremony held recently.

Cameron Hamer and Victoria London were named the respective male and female winners of the school’s Charles E. Douglas Memorial Award, which is given in recognition of outstanding contributions in the field of sports.

Hamer was the starting quarterback on the football team, a starter on the basketball team and was the Cape May County champion in the high jump in track. Hamer plans to continue his football career at Albright College.

London was a starter in both basketball and softball, earning varsity letters in both sports in each of her four years in high school. She plans to continue her softball career at Rowan College at Gloucester.

London was also given the Purple Heart Award, given by athletic trainer Amy Adair to an athlete who overcomes adversity to contribute to the school’s athletic program. London suffered a serious knee injury during her junior basketball season but returned as a senior and was a productive member of both the basketball and softball teams.

A.J. Baez and Bridget Donohue were the recipients of the school’s Robert Penkethman Memorial Sportsmanship Award, given to the senior athletes recognized by their peers as most sportsmanlike.

Baez was an outstanding leader on the football and basketball teams. He plans to attend Rowan University, where he hopes to play basketball.

Donohue was a three-sport participant in field hockey, swimming and track and field. She is Middle’s only 12-sport varsity letterwinner among the current senior class. Donohue is set to attend Catholic University, where she plans to join the school’s crew program.
