Youth baseball, softball: Middle takes district softball title, other local teams in action

The following are results from recent games played by area youth baseball and softball teams:

AGES 11-12 SOFTBALL

Middle Township 7, Upper Township 6: Gabby Cruz posted a key hit and also struck out nine batters on the mound and Camryn Rothenbiller added a hit and three stolen bases to pace Middle to the win in the semifinal round of the District 16 Tournament Tuesday. Charlotte Romberger chipped in a hit for the winners.

Middle Township 7, Northfield 5: Gabby Cruz went 2 for 3 with a double and an RBI and also struck out nine batters for the pitching win as Middle Township won the District 16 championship with the victory in the title game on Thursday. Juliet Thompson and Sydnie Hunter each scored two runs and Calleigh Rosensteel added a hit and a run scored for the winners.

AGES 11-12 BASEBALL

Northfield 6, Greater Wildwood-Middle Township 1: Hunter Urbaczewski had two hits, Cade Vogdes doubled and Broc Denke scored a run in the loss on Saturday.

Greater Wildwood-Middle Township 10, Somers Point 0: Adam Radzieta allowed just two baserunners and pitched a five-inning no-hitter with seven strikeouts and Cade Vogdes went 3 for 3 with two doubles, four RBI and two runs scored to lead Wildwood-Middle in Monday’s win. Hunter Urbaczewski went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Brian Cunniff hit a two-run single, Connor Mulligan had an RBI single and Broc Denke and Nick Tyson scored two runs apiece for Wildwood-Middle.

AGES 9-10 BASEBALL

Greater Wildwood 7, Absecon 6: Trevor Troiano struck out the final batter to seal the win for Greater Wildwood.

Northfield 14, Greater Wildwood 2.

AGES 9-10 SOFTBALL

Greater Wildwood 10, Upper Township 9: Two days after losing by more than 15 runs to Upper in the final game of pool play, Greater Wildwood turned things around in a big way to win the District 16 semifinal and advance to the championship game. Sofia Mohr went 3 for 3 with a triple and two RBI to lead Greater Wildwood, which rallied from a 5-0 deficit to get the win. Emma Oravits added two hits and an RBI and Angelina Richards added an RBI hit for the winners. Greater Wildwood will play at Hammonton in the district title game Friday.
