The last time the Middle Township High School cross country team won a conference championship, the members of the current team weren’t yet born.

Middle secured the program’s first title in 21 seasons with a sweep of Oakcrest and host Lower Cape May Tuesday afternoon, clinching the Cape-Atlantic National Conference title.

Middle’s superior depth was on display in the two victories. The Lady Panthers’ top two runners got lost on the course and finished outside the top 10. But Middle’s Alex Ramirez won the meet with a time of 24 minutes, 6 seconds. Middle then picked up fourth through seventh places behind, in order, Emily Hess (25:40), Mariann Kurtz (25:46), Cat Bostard (26:00) and Julia Risko (26:01).

Middle beat Lower Cape May, 19-36, and Oakcrest, 15-50. Oakcrest does not field enough runners to score as a team.

Middle improved to 8-0 on the season with the victory.
