Summer continues to dominate the fall

By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City High School sophomore Summer Reimet scored four goals today as the Raiders buried Timber Creek, 8-0, in the opening round of the NJSIAA Group 3 girls soccer tournament at Carey Stadium.

The win moved the Raiders (19-1-1) into a Thursday South Jersey quarterfinal at Carey Stadium against Cherry Hill West (10-7-3), which defeated Moorestown today on penalty kicks.

Ocean City will have a chance to set a new school record for wins in a season on Thursday. Kelly Halliday’s Raiders tied the record today with their 19th victory. Two other OCHS teams have won 19 – Tom Miller’s 2004 team and Halliday’s 2017 team.

Reimet’s four goals gave her 31 for the season, the most ever scored by an Ocean City player in girls soccer. Junior Faith Slimmer scored twice and had two assists. She also has passed the old school record (23 by Christine Jack in 2000) with 29 goals this year. Faith added two assists, giving her 21 for the season, extending her school record for a season.

Junior Paige Panico and senior Katie Mazzitelli scored the other two Ocean City goals today. Senior Abbey Fenton made one save to register her record 14th shutout of the season and 38th of her career.
