The Cape May Running Company has made a significant donation to the track and field team at Lower Cape May Regional High School in honor of a deceased former star athlete.

The company, owned by Harry Back and Michael Mader, donated 32 pairs of track and field running spikes, which retail for more than $2,000, to the Lower Cape May program. The donation was made in memory of Will Mendo, a Lower Cape May graduate and former Middle Township High School teacher and coach who passed away recently.

“Our mission has always been to energize our community through support of our local high school teams, youth programs, local athletic clubs and gyms,” Back and Mader wrote in a letter to the Lower Cape May Regional athletic department. “We hope our donation will give the kids the opportunity to ‘out run’ the competition!”

Back and Mader made the donation on behalf of the Cape May Running Company earlier this month.
