CoastSportsToday Athletes of the Week: Anthony Gentile (LCMR) and Keira Phillips (MTHS)

Anthony Gentile of Lower Cape May Regional High School and Keira Phillips of Middle Township High School are the latest respective CoastSportsToday.com Male and Female Athletes of the Week.

A junior on the Caper Tiger boys track team, Gentile won the 200-meter race and finished second in the 100-meter dash at the South Jersey Group II championships last weekend. Gentile recorded a time of 22.81 seconds in winning the 200. His time in the 100 was 11.25 seconds.

Gentile has qualified to compete in both events at the state Group II meet scheduled for this weekend.

Gentile was also a top performer at the Cape May County Championships held on May 26. He placed first in the 100 in 11.43 seconds and also won the 200 in 23.62 seconds.

KEIRA PHILLIPS

A junior on the Middle Township girls track team, Phillips won the 400 hurdles in 1:04.99 at last weekend’s South Jersey Group II championships. She also placed fifth in the 800 in 2:22.31. She also was part of the 4×800 relay team (along with Mariann Kurtz, Sofia Jurusz and Dakota Ludman) that set a new school record of 10:18.93 in a fourth-place effort.

Phillips has qualified to compete in both events as an individual in the relay with Kurtz, Jurusz and Ludman at the state Group II meet scheduled for this weekend at Franklin High School.

Phillips was also a double winner at the Cape May County meet in late May, taking first in the 400 hurdles in 1:04.44 and in the 800 in 3:31.52.
