CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — The Wildwood High School girls soccer team’s solid start to the season continued Wednesday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors posted a 4-1 victory over Cape May Tech for their fifth win in eight games to start the season. The win was also the team’s third straight.

“It’s been going very well for us so far,” Wildwood coach Mark Scarpa said. “It’s nice to have a season without Covid having as much of an impact. It’s allowed us to build a little bit of stability and the schedule is more what everyone is used to. We’ve gotten into a groove and we’ve been able to have some success through that.

“Our goal is to finish over .500. We have eyes on trying to be successful on the season as a whole.”

Kaydence Oakley, a junior midfielder, continued her sensational season by scoring twice and setting up another goal in the victory. Oakley now has 10 goals and four assists through eight games.

“She’s definitely a big part of our team,” Scarpa said. “She’s our leading goal scorer but more importantly than that she also creates a lot of opportunities for the other girls as well.”

Oakley opened the scoring off an assist from Imene Fathi before later scoring unassisted to give Wildwood a 2-0 lead at the half.

Fathi extended the lead to 3-0 early in the second half by finishing a glorious through ball by teammate Kaliah Sumlin.

Katrina Pease banged home a shot from close range after teammate Alex Garcia alertly played the ball to open space to pull one back for Cape May Tech with about 15 minutes to play. But Wildwood ended all thoughts of a late Lady Hawk comeback when Oakley’s outstanding pass led to a tap-in by Siara McGrath to set the final score.

Sinaia Stroman-Hills made four saves in goal for Wildwood. Hailey Pinto had 24 stops for Cape May Tech.
