MTHS announces major sports awards winners

Middle Township High School has announced its major sports awards winners for the 2021-22 scholastic year.

David Giulian and Brianna Robinson were named the respective male and female winners of the Charles E. Douglas Memorial Award, given to the top male and female senior athletes in the senior class as voted by their peers.

Giulian excelled in football, wrestling and track and field. He plans to continue his football career at The College of New Jersey.

Robinson was a standout in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. She plans to play both basketball and lacrosse at Richard Stockton University.

Giulian and Robinson each earned 12 varsity letters during their careers at Middle.

Jordan Severino and Sophia Braun were each named the respective male and female winners of the Robert K. Penkethman Award, which goes to the seniors recognized as showing qualities associated with being a good teammate and role model as voted by their peers.

Severino, who is headed to the University of Pennsylvania, competed in cross country, swimming and track and field. Braun, who is set to attend the University of Mississippi, competed in field hockey, swimming and golf.

Sarina Wen was named Middle Township’s NJSIAA Scholar Athlete. Wen, who served as a team captain for the tennis, swimming and track and field teams, finished her high school academic career ranked No. 1 in the senior class. She is set to attend Princeton University in the fall.

Mia Slick was the recipient of the Purple Heart Award, given to the senior athlete who most overcame adversity/injury as nominated by school athletic trainer Amy Adair. Slick is set to play lacrosse at Immaculate University.

Thirty-seven senior athletes were also honored for earning four varsity letters in at least one sport.
