Cape Express/CoastSportsToday.com Cape May County girls soccer all-stars

For the second straight year, the Cape Express Soccer Club is teaming with CoastSportsToday.com to produce Cape May County high school boys and girls soccer all-star teams.

The following is the Cape May County girls soccer all-star team for 2022:

PLAYER OF THE YEAR

RILEY FORTNA

RILEY FORTNA                       Senior                   Back                               Ocean City

The leader of a defense that was scored upon just six times all season, Fortna is considered one of the most dynamic backs in the state. A two-time all-South Jersey and all-state selection, Fortna routinely uses her keen soccer acumen, experience and technical skills to consistently negate threats from opposing strikers. A four-year starter, Fortna helped Ocean City to a 71-2-7 during her career. A two-time Cape Express/CoastSportsToday.com all-star, Fortna is receiving interest from numerous colleges.

FIRST TEAM (listed alphabetically)

EMILY BENSON                      Senior                   Midfield                           Ocean City

A tremendous defensive midfielder, Benson has been an integral to Ocean City’s success over the past few seasons. Adept at controlling the pace of a game and ensuring that her team consistently enjoys the bulk of possession through her relentless energy. Posted five goals and 11 assists this fall.

MCKENNA CHISHOLM           Junior                   Midfield                           Ocean City

A prototypical center midfielder, Chisholm has plenty of solid all-around attributes and little weaknesses. Covers lots of ground and possesses size that allows her to be an aerial threat. Excellent in transition. Contributed seven goals and 10 assists.

CIARA DIMAURO                    Senior                   Forward                          Middle Township

A tireless worker both on and off the ball with swift pace, DiMauro has been one of the top offensive threats in the Cape-Atlantic League over the past few seasons. She scored 17 goals this fall and 53 for her career. In addition to her scoring ability, she also is an excellent distributor, as evidenced by her 44 career assists. A two-time first team all-league and all-Cape May County selection. Headed to Division II Clarion University.

EVA DIMITROV                        Senior                   Midfield                           Middle Township

A four-year starter and two-year captain, Dimitrov is a dual threat as a defensive center midfielder. Extremely strong on the ball and as a mark on opposing teams’ best midfielders, Dimitrov is also an offensive threat on set pieces due to a powerful leg that consistently crafts dangerous crosses and long balls. Recorded six goals and 10 assists this fall. Numerous Division III schools showing interest.

TESSA HUEBER                     Junior                   Midfield                           Lower Cape May

A team-captain, Hueber is a threat from all areas of the field due to her unique one-v.-one and passing skills. A dangerous threat both from wide areas and from the middle of the field. Also an outstanding defender. A two-time Cape Express/CoastSportsToday.com Cape May County all-star, Hueber posted seven goals and five assists for a Lower team that saw a five-win improvement this fall.

MADDYN MCANANEY            Senior                   Back                               Middle Township

A four-year starter and two-year captain, McAnaney was the only returning starter to a defensive unit that conceded more than one goal in a game just six times in 16 games this season. A good communicator who keeps the back line organized.

CORYN MCDONNELL             Sophomore          Back                               Ocean City

One of the best young defenders in the Cape-Atlantic League, McDonnell was instrumental to the success of a Raider team that permitted just six goals all season. Wins most of her 50-50 challenges and disrupts transition from the stopper position. Also a threat to create chances on restarts in the final third. Already receiving high-level college interest.

KAITLYN MCGUIGAN             Junior                   Back                               Lower Cape May

One of the top athletes in the school, McGuigan is the center back for a defense that recorded six shutouts this fall. Aggressively defends opponents’ best offensive options. Also dangerous on offensive set pieces.

KAYDENCE OAKLEY             Senior                   Forward                          Wildwood

One of South Jersey’s most gifted offensive players, Oakley scored a program-record 44 goals as a senior and finished her career second all-time in program history with 96 goals. Blessed with speed to consistently slice open even the most organized defenses, Oakley can also score from distance thanks to the ability to strike the ball equally well with both feet.

NOLA QUINN                           Junior                   Midfield                           Wildwood Catholic

A three-year starter and team captain, Quinn uses an endless motor and solid technical ability to make a meaningful impact on every game. A leader who had several inexperienced players working around her in the midfield, Quinn posted five goals and eight assists this fall.

OLIVIA SGRIGNIOLI                Junior                   Midfield                           Middle Township

Diminutive in size but large in speed, talent and work rate, Sgrignioli is one of the top offensive midfielders in the Cape-Atlantic League. Posted 15 goals and 11 assists this fall and will take career totals of 42 goals and 31 assists into her senior year. A two-time Cape Express/CoastSportsToday.com Cape May County all-star.

TORI VLIET                              Senior                   Goalkeeper                    Ocean City

Tall and athletic, Vliet is a three-year starter who is considered one of the best at her position in South Jersey. Stopped numerous penalty kicks over the Raiders’ three matches that were decided on penalties this season. Conceded only four goals and recorded 14 shutouts in 19 games. Vliet is headed to Division II Valdosta State University.
