Liam Bergman set OCHS indoor track record

By TOM WILLIAMS

NEW YORK- Ocean City High School senior Liam Bergman set a new school record in the triple jump this weekend at the Marine Corps Holiday Classic in the New Balance Track and Field Center at the New York Armory.

Bergman, who just completed a football career where he ran for 1,131 yards, covered 41 feet, 10.25 inches to break the record set by Ryan Givens in 2013 by more than five inches. He finished seventh in the meet. Bergman also was fourth in the high jump by clearing six feet.

In addition, both OCHS distance medley relay teams scored in the competition.

The boys distance medley team (1200 meters, 400, 80-0, 1600) finished fifth in 11:06.82. The runners were seniors Korey Greene, Sean Zellers, P.J. Short and Jesse Schmeizer.

The girls distance medley team of sophomore Casey McLees, junior Meghan Gereaghty, freshman Alexa Palmieri and senior Alexa Weber was eighth in 13:25.73.

The next indoor track competition is Jan. 14 at the Bears High School Invitational on the campus of Ursinus College in Collegeville, PA.
