ERMA – There was much less drama involved in the Lower Cape May Regional High School boys basketball team’s second game of the season than there was in the first.
The Tigers, playing their home opener Monday, rushed out to a 9-0 lead to start the game and never looked back in a rather easy 65-37 victory over Absegami in the team’s first Cape-Atlantic National Conference game of the season.
The result was in stark contrast to Saturday’s season opener against Cape May Tech in which Lower claimed a 61-58 win over Cape May Tech on freshman Martin Anguelov’s three-pointer with four seconds to play.
Absegami responded to Lower’s early rally by finishing the first quarter on a 9-4 run. But Lower outscored the Braves 15-4 in the second period to lead 28-13 at the half. Lower then put the game away with a 23-13 edge in the third quarter.
Pat Holden led the Tigers with a game-high 18 points. He also had four steals and three assists. Anguelov chipped in 11 points and Pat Moore added 10 points, five rebounds and four assists.
Manny Martinez scored 11 points to lead Absegami (0-2).
Lower is off until it plays Middle Township on Saturday at the Crest Savings Bank Battle at the Boards showcase event as part of the Boardwalk Basketball Classic at the Wildwoods Convention Center. The 4:15 p.m. contest will air live on 98.7 The Coast.
