VIDEO PREVIEW: Tough schedule awaits Lady Warriors

Seniors (from left) Tracey Young and Michelle Lugo and junior Maddie McCracken are the returning starters on the Wildwood High School girls basketball team.

WILDWOOD HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS BASKETBALL

Mascot: Lady Warriors

Conference: Tri-County Classic

2016-17 Record: 24-5 (South Jersey Group I champions)

Head coach: Teresa Cunniff (first season)

Assistant coaches: Jim Clarke, Rich “Sharply Dressed” Hans

Returning players: Seniors – Michelle Lugo (5-3 G), Tracey Young (5-7 F); Junior – Maddie McCracken (5-8 G); Sophomore – Gabby Keoughan (5-5 G).

Top newcomers: Senior – Nia Corujo (5-3 G); Freshmen – Leah Benichou (5-3 G), Jenna Hans (5-8 F).

Strengths: Guard play, athleticism, some experience

Weaknesses: Size, depth

Outlook: Wildwood features the top returning guard in the county in Maddie McCracken (16.2 ppg) and two other experienced returnees in forward Tracey Young and guard Michelle Lugo. The team hailing from one of the smallest public schools in the state has little depth, so staying healthy is paramount. The Lady Warriors face a very difficult non-league schedule and will play a total of 16 games away from home but should challenge for the Tri-County Conference Classic Division title and also should be a factor in the South Jersey Group I Tournament.

Season opener: Friday at Clearview, 5 pm
