By TOM WILLIAMS

Ocean City High School senior Maddie Kahn has been selected to play on the U-19 USA Field Hockey Team after the completion of a selection camp in Lancaster, PA.

Kahn, a multiple all star for the Raiders, is the only New Jersey player selected the 19 & Under team which will take part in three additional training camps over the next several weeks to prepare for their respective Germany tours.

“I am so very proud of Maddie,” said OCHS head coach Kelsey Mitchell, who was on the USA U-16 teamsin both 2008 and 2009. “I am so happy for this achievement because her hard work has paid off.”

Kahn, a transfer from Lenape after her freshmen year, has committed to play field hockey at Lehigh University.

“Maddie is a student of the game,” Mitchell said, “and she has grown immensely as a leader throughout her career. I couldn’t think of a goalkeeper more deserving of the honor.”

From April 14-22, the U-19 Team will travel to Dusseldorf to take on Germany’s U-18 Team and Belgium’s U-18 Team. Additionally, for the first time, the U-19 Team will take part in the Young Women’s National Championships from June 14-18.

“When you are selected to a USA team,” Mitchell said, “you travel and train with the best players from your age group from across the country. The coaching staff is always top notch and you get the opportunity to travel overseas and experience a culture where field hockey is at the forefront of sports.

“It is very special.”

And, according to the top field hockey people in the country, so is Maddie Kahn.
