The Middle Township High School girls basketball team faced a 9-4 deficit after the first quarter of a second-round state playoff game at Cinnaminson Wednesday.
The Lady Panthers made sure that deficit was short lived and have now landed in the semifinal round of the South Jersey Group II Tournament.
Middle, the fifth seed in the section, outscored the fourth-seeded Pirates 37-14 over the middle two quarters and won going away, posting a 50-36 victory.
Sophomore Kate Herlihy led the way for Middle (23-5) with 20 points, seven rebounds and five steals. Junior Maddie Barber added 11 points, junior Kira Sides chipped in nine points and junior Aubrey Hunter had eight points.
Middle will next play Friday at top-seeded Sterling, which was a 54-31 winner over No. 9 Haddon Heights in its second-round game Wednesday. Friday’s game will air live on 106.3 The Shore radio.
