NORTH WILDWOOD — The seventh- and eighth-grade basketball teams from Upper Township (boys) and Margaret Mace (girls) each captured championships at the George A. D’Amico Memorial Grammar School Basketball Tournament last weekend at the North Wildwood Recreation Center.
The tournament was hosted by the Optimist Club of the Wildwoods. Proceeds from the event help fund the Optimist Club’s various charitable endeavors.
Upper Township won the boys championship game over Wildwood, 54-24. Sean Sakers netted 17 points and Pat Lonergan chipped in 10 points for Upper. Junior Hans poured in 19 points in the loss.
Margaret Mace scored a 37-34 victory in overtime over Bishop McHugh in the girls title game. Ella McCabe (12), Maya Benichou (11) and Macie McCracken (10) each scored in double figures for Margaret Mace. Madison Palek led all scorers with 16 points in the loss.
