CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE — Freshman Sofia Jurusz continued her strong debut high school season by leading the Middle Township High School girls cross country to a sweep of a double dual meet against Cape May Tech and Pleasantville Tuesday afternoon at county park.

On the boys side, Middle’s John Hargest was the top local finisher but Cape May Tech had greater overall depth and swept the meet over the Panthers and Greyhounds.

Jurusz, who also won her first high school meet last week, posted a time of 21 minutes, 1 second, to finish ahead Lindsay Robbins of Cape May Tech, who was second in 21:26. Pleasantville’s Maya Harper placed third in 21:26. Another Middle freshmen, Emily Letts, was fourth in 21:29 and Cape May Tech’s Jayne Seitz placed fifth in 21:41.

Middle beat the Hawks, 25-30, in girls team scoring. Both Middle and Tech were 15-50 winners over Pleasantville, which did not field enough runners to score as a team.

Pleasantville’s Irvin Marable won the boys meet with a blistering time of 17:20, finishing 50 seconds ahead of second-place teammate Gabriel Moronta. Marable and Moronta were the only runners in the boys meet for the Greyhounds, who could not score as a team.

Middle’s Hargest was third in 19:03. He narrowly edged fourth-place Eddie Oakley of Cape May Tech by a second. Tech’s Frank “FB3” Basile rounded out the top five in 20:19.

Tech was a 21-37 winner over Middle. Both local teams beat Pleasantville by 15-50 scores.
