Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Maxwell Field was eerily quiet last Labor Day weekend.
That won’t be the case beginning Friday.
Continuing a long tradition, the City of Wildwood’s athletic facility will host a number of high school football and soccer games involving teams from the Philadelphia area from Friday through Sunday.
On Friday, Roman Catholic and Monsignor Bonner-Archbishop Prendergast, both of the Philadelphia Catholic League, will battle in football at 7 p.m. on Warrior Field on the east side of the facility.
In soccer on Friday, Devon Prep of the PCL and Holy Ghost Prep, an independent school, will play at 4 p.m. on Kaitlin Anzelone Memorial Field on the west side of the facility. That contest will be followed by another game at 6 p.m. featuring Roman Catholic and William Tennent of the Pennsylvania Suburban One League.
Saturday’s schedule includes two football games on Warrior Field. The first features Ss. Neumann-Goretti High School against Archbishop Wood, both of the PCL, at noon. At 4 p.m., West Catholic of the PCL will take on Episcopal Academy of the Inter-Academic League.
Two soccer games will conclude the action on Sunday on Anzelone Field. Devon Prep will face Tennent at 4 p.m., followed by Roman Catholic against Holy Ghost Prep at 6 p.m.
There will be separate admission charges for each football game during the course of the weekend. The soccer games are free.
