Two Lower Cape May Regional High School wrestlers made history Sunday afternoon.

Junior Brock Zurawski and senior Brayden Castillo each finished seventh in their respective weight classes at the prestigious Beast of the East Tournament at the University of Delaware. Zurawski and Castillo are the first two wrestlers from Lower Cape May to place among the top eight at the two-day event, which regularly features many of the top wrestlers form the Mid Atlantic Region.

Zurawski, seeded 11th at 170 pounds, went 5-2 at the tournament. He scored a 5-2 decision over Camden Catholic’s Jurius Clark in the seventh-place match.

Zurawski won his first three matches before suffering his first loss in the fourth round. He then won his first consolation bout before another loss sent him into the seventh-place match.

Castillo, the 53rd seed at 182 pounds, lost his first match before winning four straight consolation matches. After another loss, Castillo beat R.J. May of Maggie Walker’s Governor School (Va.), 9-3, in the seventh-place bout.

Another Lower Cape May wrestler, senior Marcus Hebron, also competed at the Beast of the East event at 195 pounds. He won three of his five matches at the tournament.
