WILDWOOD – The Wildwood High School girls basketball team had reason to celebrate Friday afternoon.
The Lady Warriors finished off an unbeaten Tri-County Classic Division schedule and picked up their 19th win of the season with a 62-32 victory over Pennsville on Senior Day.
Wildwood placed three players in double figures and used a 25-3 run from the midway point of the second quarter to late in the third quarter. Senior Imene Fathi knocked down four three-pointers and scored 20 points to go with six rebounds and five assists. Freshman Macie McCracken nailed three triples and added 17 points while also mixing six rebounds, six steals and four assists. And senior Emily Little chipped in 11 points to go with six rebounds and three blocks.
The regular season complete, Wildwood (19-4) now turns its attention to the South Jersey Group I Tournament. The team is the top seed in the section and will play at home for as long as it stays alive in the tournament through a South Jersey title game.
The Lady Warriors will open with No. 16 Buena on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live by 98.7 The Coast radio, with a live video stream at CoastSportsToday.com.
A win Tuesday would put Wildwood in a quarterfinal game Thursday against No. 8 Riverside or No. 9 Clayton.
Wildwood is a favorite to reach the South Jersey title game. No. 2 Woodbury is a heavy favorite to emerge from the other side. Wildwood lost the 2020 South Jersey title game to Woodbury at home.
