CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Macie McCracken did it again, this time without much of a challenge.
The Wildwood High School sophomore won the Cape May County girls cross country championship meet at county park for the second straight year. She did so by approximately 41 seconds faster than her closest competitor.
McCracken posted a time of 18 minutes, 45.73 seconds to finish ahead of second-place Maeve Smith of Ocean City, who finished in 19:26.89.
Smith led Ocean City to the team championship as the Raiders took second through seventh places and had each of its seven runners place among the top nine. Chloe Care (19:54.48), Olivia Palmieri (20:14.30), Frankie Ritzel (20:17.85) and Grace McAfee (20:25.74) were the Raiders’ other scorers in third through seventh places, respectively.

Ocean City’s Gabrielle Henry was seventh in 20:59.85, followed by Wildwood’s Leah Pawlus (21:14.80), Ocean City’s Abby Inserra (21:17.18) and Middle Township’s Sofia Jurusz (21:25.70).
Ocean City totaled just 20 points to win the girls team championship for the 11th straight year. Middle was second at 70, with Wildwood a close third at 76.
McCracken won last year’s girls race by 13 seconds.
Nick Scarangelli led Ocean City to its seventh straight boys championship. Scarangelli, who placed second at last year’s county meet, posted a time of 15:49.55 and joined teammates Matt Hoffman (16:23.36) and Chris Sardy (16:45.08) to give the Raiders the top three places.
Lower Cape May’s Jack Cura (16:48.17) and Wildwood’s Jorge Cruz Valle (16:56.70) were fourth and fifth, respectively. Raider runners Ethan Buck (16:58.31), Kay Heyman (17:22.70), Colin Abbott (17:27.23) and Sam Ritti (17:28.22) took the next four places, with Wildwood’s Luke Basile (18:38.25) rounding out the top 10.
Ocean City posted just 19 points in winning the boys team title, followed by Wildwood (66) and Lower Cape May (79).
