Two local girls basketball teams saw their playoff run end Wednesday night. In the Group II Girls Basketball State Semifinal from Central Regional High School, The Middle Township Lady Panthers led New Providence 9-8 at the end of the first and were down by only two points 20-18 at the half, but New Providence increased their lead to seven points at the conclusion of the third. The Lady Panthers were sent home with a final score of 49 to 34. The Pioneers will compete for the Group II crown on Saturday.
In South Jersey Non-Public B State Semifinals, Wildwood Catholic Academy was overtaken in the first quarter as Rutgers Prep concluded the period with a 7-0 run , leading 18 to 9. Wildwood Catholic’s Ava Vodges sunk a 3-pointer beating the buzzer in the final seconds of the first half, but were still down 33-15. The Lady Crusaders ended their season with a 70-40 loss to Rutgers Prep.
