By BRIAN CUNNIFF

WILDWOOD — The Wildwood High School girls basketball team dominated the opening quarters of Thursday’s game against Pitman and breezed to an easy victory.

The Lady Warriors raced out to a 17-0 lead after the first quarter and posted a 27-3 advantage in the third quarter en route to a 62-12 win over a depleted Lady Panther team that was missing its top two scorers.

All five Wildwood starters scored in the opening quarter as the Lady Warriors pitched a shutout through the first eight minutes. The pace slowed considerably in the second quarter, with each team scoring just four points, but Wildwood turned the game into a rout behind a monster scoring barrage in the third period.

Junior guard Imene Fathi recorded 19 points to lead all scorers and also added six rebounds and four steals in just three quarters of action. Sophomore Maya Benichou was also in double figures with 11 points to go along with six steals.

Fathi and May Benichou were named the CoastSportsToday.com/98.7 The Coast co-Players of the Game for their efforts.

Seniors Jenna Hans and Leah Benichou each added nine points and freshman Sinaia Stroman-Hills chipped in eight points off the bench.

The victory was the fourth straight for Wildwood (6-2).
